Metropolisation and Polycentric Development in Central Europe
The POLYCE research project stands for Metropolisation and Polycentric Development in Central Europe and is funded by the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion (ESPON).
The project addresses an integrated and thematic analysis of the polycentric network and development of metropolitan functional urban areas in the Danube Region. This targeted analysis improves evidence and knowledge regarding the detection of driving forces on the process of metropolisation as well as the enforcement of polycentric development.
Empirical analysis based on a differentiated methodology will provide an added value (1) to the existing knowledge about recent polycentric situation in the Danube Region, and (2) to recent and future governance initiatives/strategies aiming at the mutual relation between competing metropolises and polycentric development under the perspective of sustainability.
The POLYCE research network comprises the Vienna University of Technology (Lead partner), the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, the Charles University in Prague, the Czech Technical University in Prague, CEPS/INSTEAD Luxembourg, the Politecnico di Milano, the University of Ljubljana, and the University of Szeged.
